Public Affairs

Keeping this community safe is one of the primary duties of the JPSO; however, we cannot do it alone. In an effort to better engage the citizens of the parish, the JPSO has established a Community Relations Section.

The Public Affairs Division is housed in the Westbank Administrative Complex at:
1233 Westbank Expressway
Harvey, LA 70058

This division oversees a variety of programs, serving the young, the elderly, and everyone in between. These programs are open to the general public and promote safety and fellowship throughout.

Available Programs

A few of the programs are listed below:
  • This section provides Youth Safety Lectures. These lectures are for all grades and ages designed to prevent drug abuse and violence in young adults.
  • The local Neighborhood Watch Program is also administered by this section. This program teaches citizens techniques to reduce the risk of being victimized at home or in public. We currently service more than 70 neighborhood groups.
  • The JPSO sponsors a National Night Out Against Crime. Representatives from the JPSO try to attend as many neighborhood or civic association events and block parties as possible to promote neighborhood safety.
  • We also oversee the the Young Marines Program. This youth program is open to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 17. Its primary mission is to positively impact America's future by providing quality youth development by promoting a healthy, drug and crime free lifestyle.
  • With all of the parks and recreational activities in the Parish, theft of a bicycle is, unfortunately, rather commonplace. So that we can get your bicycle back to you when recovered, we have implemented a Bicycle Registration Program to capture vital information about your bike.
  • We also sponsor a program titled Jefferson Handy Emergency Line Phone (JHELP). This program collects used cell phones from the public and distributes them to our senior citizens for use in emergencies.
  • This section includes a Crime Prevention Unit. Members of the Crime Prevention Unit are full time deputies. These deputies are able to provide lectures regarding crime trends, personal safety, and residential safety.
  • False Alarm Education Program - The Crime Prevention Unit educates the citizens and businesses on how to prevent false alarms.
