MURDER INVESTIGATION IN MARRERO

Thursday, January 02, 2014 12:30 AM

On January 1, 2014, around 9:43 PM our officers were dispatched to a report of a subject shot in the 6100 block of Ray Street in Marrero. First responding officers located the body of a male subject lying in the driveway of 6141 Ray. The victim, identified as Joseph Anderson, W/M, 31, of 5341 Belle Terre Road in Marrero, was pronounced dead on the scene of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators learned the victim dropped his three children off at his in-laws home on Ray Street shortly before the shooting took place. According to a family member, the victim was last seen walking out of the residence after dropping off the children. The family member told investigators he heard a pop, however, he didn't pay much attention to it, thinking it was someone shooting fireworks. However, it wasn't until a few minutes later that someone knocked on their door to tell them of a man lying on the ground outside of their home. It was then, the family member discovered Anderson had been shot, at which time he called 911.

Homicide Detective Melvin Francis, who is assigned this investigation also learned the victim's 2001 green, Toyota 4-Runner, bearing LA license # ODZ914 could not be located. All indications at this time appear the victim was accosted after walking outside, shot and his vehicle stolen.

Anyone with information in this matter, or who may know the whereabouts of the victim's vehicle is asked to call Detective Francis at 504-364-5300 or CRIMESTOPPERS.
