Sunday, June 30, 2013 11:47 AM
On June 30, 2013, at 1:07 AM, our 911 Center received a call from a male subject reporting someone shot at 2026 James Drive in Marrero. First responding Third District officers located a male victim lying on the kitchen floor suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. The victim, identified as Trey Stahl, W/M,16, of 2809 Barataria Blvd. in Marrero was pronounced dead on the scene.
A preliminary investigation conducted by homicide Detective Travis Eserman revealed the victim, along with an individual identified as Christian Cardon, W/M, 23, of 1718 Gulf Dr in Gretna were inside of a friends home at 2026 James Dr in the company of three additional males and a female when the shooting occurred. Cardon told investigators he was showing the group a recently purchased AR-15 semi-auto rifle when it discharged. Cardon stated he left the weapon's magazine in his vehicle prior to bringing it into the home, however, he claimed he didn't realize the weapon had a live round in the chamber. As he was handling the weapon Cardon told investigators he pulled the trigger in an attempt to clear the weapon causing it to discharge, striking the victim.
Investigators transported Cardon and all of the witnesses to the Criminal Investigations Bureau for questioning. Subsequently, Christian Cardon was booked into the JPCC with one count of Negligent Homicide.
