On Sunday, February 03, 2013, between the hours of 3:00- 5:00 AM, a total of five vehicles were burglarized in the Audubon Oaks subdivision in Marrero. All of the vehicle burglaries occurred in the 2500 block of Meadowlark (1) and the 2500 & 2600 blocks of Sandpiper Circle(4). The owners of the respective vehicles all claimed they believed they locked their cars, however, there was no visible signs of forced entry into any of the burglarized vehicles.
It should be noted, one vehicle in particular that was burglarized, described as a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria that was parked in the 2600 block of Sandpiper Circle was an unmarked NOPD SWAT officer’s department vehicle. Taken from within this vehicle, was a number of the SWAT officer’s departmental issued gear. This included a Colt M4 .223 Cal automatic assault rifle, a Glock .40 Cal semi-automatic handgun, a tactical entry vest along with a number of additional tactical items. All of this equipment was locked inside of the trunk of the aforementioned vehicle according to the NOPD officer.
Burglary Detective Todd Rivere is assigned the follow-up investigation into these vehicle burglaries. Upon conducting a canvass of the immediate area, Detective Rivere was able to recover video surveillance of two individuals who may be connected to the burglaries. Efforts are underway at this time to enhance the video in hope of identifying the suspects. We have no know suspects in this investigation, therefore, we are asking anyone with information in this matter, or who may know the whereabouts of the stolen tactical items to contact Detective Rivere at 364-5300 or Crimestoppers.
