You may recall, during the early evening hours of August 12, 2012, our officers responded to a shooting incident involving multiple victims at 1634 Julie Street in Marrero.

JPSO Homicide Detective Travis Eserman conducted a follow-up investigation in this incident and learned on September 20, 2012, of a possible suspect in the shootings. He was identified Earnest Payne, B/M, 23, of 2720 Destrehan Boulevard apt C in Harvey. Witnesses reported hearing Payne brag of his involvement in the shooting deaths of Harry Martin, B/M, 19, of 7158 Hnasko Street in Marrero, and his brother, Delanta McCall, B/M, 21, of 7158 Hnasko Street in Marrero on the night of August 12th. Payne was positively identified through a photographic line-up. Eserman also learned a vehicle described by witnesses after the shootings, as a 1998 Ford F-150 (Ernest Payne’s vehicle) was observed on our ALPR camera system leaving the area of the murder scene several minutes following the shootings.

Based on the above information, on December 17, 2012, Detective Eserman prepared an arrest warrant for Earnest Payne for two counts of Accessory after the Fact to Second Degree Murder and one count Accessory after the Fact to Attempted Second Degree Murder. On December 17, 2012, Detective Eserman was contacted by Detective Mark Monson of the JPSO Street Crimes Division who advised he arrested Earnest Payne on unrelated charges on Patriot Street and Fourth Street on the evening of December 17, 2012. Detective Monson also conducted a search warrant at Payne’s residence, 2720 Destrehan Boulevard apt C, where a semi-auto rifle was recovered. Efforts are under way to determine if said weapon was involved in the shootings on Julie Street. Earnest Payne was transported by Detective Eserman to the JPCC where he was booked accordingly.
