Sheriff Newell Normand announces the arrest of Coltney Mitchell, B/M, 27, of Harvey, in reference to the fatal hit and run crash reported on August 8, 2017, at the intersection of Ames Boulevard and 6th Street in Marrero.
Traffic Fatality Investigator Sergeant Jeff Navo was able to identify a suspect vehicle in the incident, a 2015 Dodge Dart. Sergeant Navo requested assistance from other members of the department in locating the vehicle, and deputies from the Second District located it late last night.
The driver of the vehicle on the night of the crash was identified as Mitchell. Mitchell initially described being in a crash with another vehicle, but the damage to his vehicle was inconsistent with that claim. Mitchell was transported to our Investigations Bureau, and further interviewed. After being confronted with the nature of the damage to his vehicle, Mitchell admitted to striking the victim with his vehicle and fleeing the area.
Sergeant Navo booked Mitchell at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center with negligent homicide and hit and run driving with fatality.
