Sheriff Newell Normand is proud to announce his involvement in a community initiative to distribute school supplies to children whose lives have been affected by the incarceration of their parents. This effort has been helped by donations from several non-profit groups and faith-based organizations, along with corporate sponsors. A "Putt-Putt" fundraiser was also held earlier this year to raise over $9,000 to make this project possible.
Backpacks filled with school supplies, assembled by Innerfaith Prison Ministry in Lafayette, will be distributed by members of our Reserve Division to the children of individuals currently housed in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. This program is based on the successful implementation of a similar program launched by Innerfaith Prison Ministry.
Sheriff Normand would like to recognize the following organizations who made this event possible:
Life Resources, who sponsored the fundraiser
AFL-CIO of New Orleans
Kenner North Kiwanis Club
New Orleans Central City Lions Club
