Sheriff Newell Normand announces the arrests of Gregory Perriera, B/M, 31, and Brittney McClendon, B/F, 26, both of New Orleans in reference to a series of armed robberies.
Between May 21, 2017 and July 15, 2017, our Robbery Section investigated a number of armed robberies occurring at businesses in different areas of the parish. In summary, a lone suspect entered these businesses armed with black a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the victims. After receiving the money from those victims, the suspect fled from the businesses on foot either to the rear or to an adjacent business. During an incident on June 11, the suspect discharged his firearm at a witness who was walking into the store as the suspect was attempting to flee.
Our investigators were able to determine that the robberies appeared to have been committed by the same individual based on physical characteristics and vehicle descriptions.
On July 15 at approximately 2:00am, another robbery was reported from a business in the 8600 block of River Road. Deputies responded to the area, and minutes later, Sergeant Donald Clogher of the Third District spotted a possible suspect vehicle in the Avondale area. Sergeant Clogher attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, Perriera, instead led deputies on a short vehicle pursuit. The pursuit ended when Perriera lost control of the vehicle and crashed near the intersection of Phyllis Drive and Marie Dr. The suspect then fled on foot, discarding a firearm as he ran. Sergeant Clogher was able to catch up to him and take him into custody.
A search of the suspect vehicle revealed a number of items that potentially tied Perriera to more than one of the previous robberies. Perriera was subsequently booked by Sergeant Frank Renaudin of our Robbery Section with seven counts of Armed robbery, one count of Aggravated assault with a firearm, and two counts of possession of firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies.
Sergeant Renaudin continued his investigation following Perriera's arrest, and became aware that McClendon, Perriera's girlfriend, had assisted Perriera by disposing of items that tied him to the robberies. On July 17, Sergeant Renaudin arrested McClendon for six counts of being an accessory after the fact to armed robbery.
Anyone with any additional information regarding these robberies is asked to call Sergeant Renaudin at 504-364-5300 or contact Crimestoppers.
