Normand reports, this morning, around 12:35 am, our
officers responded to a report of a female shot at 9220 East
Claiborne Parkway in unincorporated Westwego.
officers located the body of the 14 year-old victim, identified as Jasmine
Anderson, lying on the bedroom floor, suffering from a gunshot wound to the
head. She was transported to University Hospital and later pronounced
investigators met with the grandmother of the victim and learned that her 15
year-old grandson ran into her bedroom in a panic, telling her he accidentally
shot his sister. Upon being questioned, the 15 year-old told
investigators he and his sister were in her bedroom when the handgun he was
handling accidentally discharged striking her in the head.
questioned how he obtained the handgun, the 15 year-old told detectives he bought the gun on the street
for "protection." Additionally, the grandmother
advised she had no knowledge of her grandson purchasing the firearm.
Scene Technicians located a 9mm, High Point, semi-automatic handgun lying on
floor in the victim's bedroom. They also recovered one spent 9mm shell casing.
An additional magazine for this weapon was located in the
15 year-old's bedroom.
Detective Kurt Zeagler secured
arrest warrants for the 15 year-old for Negligent Homicide and Juvenile with a
Firearm. He was
transported to the Juvenile
Assessment Center and booked accordingly.
