Sheriff Newell Normand reports that at 2:31 pm, Third District deputies were dispatched to a report of gunfire in the 1900 block of Charleston Drive in Marrero. Upon their arrival in the area, units located a number of spent shell casings at the location, but did not find a victim.
Approximately 15 minutes later, deputies were called to a local hospital in reference to a man who walked in suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Deputies made contact with the individual, a 19-year-old black male from unincorporated Westwego. He was adamant that he was shot in the 9200 block of Cindy Drive in unincorporated Westwego. Deputies were unable to locate any signs of a shooting incident in that area.
At around the same time, a second black male, a 24-year-old Marrero resident, showed up at a different medical facility suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Deputies also made contact with that male, who stated he was shot while standing near his vehicle in the 1900 block of Charleston Drive. He was unable to provide any additional information to deputies.
There is no motive or suspect information at this time. Investigators will continue to attempt to determine if these victims represent two distinct incidents or are somehow related. Neither injury is being considered as life-threatening.
