The suspect involved in this morning's shooting of Deputy Nicholas Songy has been identified as Isreal Flores, H/M, 38, with an unknown local address. A relative of Flores told investigators he often stayed at his girlfriend's home at 1010 Severn Ave.
Songy was shot once in the leg while investigating a domestic disturbance call in the 1000 block of Severn Avenue in Metairie around 11:21 AM this morning. He has since been treated for his injury and released from University Hospital.
After being shot during the exchange of gunfire between he and Deputy Songy, Flores fled to a home several blocks away at 3530 46th Street. A witness provided information leading us to the location where Flores was hiding. Soon thereafter, SWAT operatives, with the assistance of K-9, located Flores in the second floor hallway of the 46th Street address. After being ordered to put down his weapon, Flores raised the weapon and pointed it at the SWAT members who shot him several times. Flores was pronounced dead on the scene.
Isreal Flores was currently wanted on a number of attachments for being a felon in possession of a firearm as well as several drug related offenses. He has a prior criminal history with numerous arrests for: possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm during a drug transaction, resisting arrest and several counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
